From tree to bottle, Albarya is entirely produced in Monte Novo da Serra, a piece of land filled with a grove of vibrant-green native medronho trees bathed in the coastal winds near the town of Aljezur, in the south of Portugal.
We picked the ideal location to offer you the best medronho experience. One side of our land looks towards the foothills of the Monchique mountains. The other edge of the land faces the Atlantic Ocean, whose breeze adds a special flavor to the berries we use for Albarya.
Medronho has been distilled on the grounds of Monte Novo da Serra for over a century. The old building of our distillery has been renovated to preserve its original features while housing modern technology to garantee the best quality we can bring to you.
It takes many kilos of handpicked medronho berries to make one liter of brandy. The distillation process takes place in traditional copperstills – alambiques – heated upon woodfire. The resulting is then aged in oak barrels and matured for at least 5 years until it achieves its unmistakable golden color and its depth of flavor, the smoky oak and the tannins while conserving the fruity notes.

A culture in a drink: ask anyone around here and they will tell you what a good medronho is. We do our best to make sure the spirit of this Portuguese tradition remains alive in every single bottle and every single sip.
